105 members and friends attended the 86th Anniversary Dinner
and Prize Presentation Of the Phoenix C.C. (Aintree) at the Huyton Suites,
Huyton on Saturday 26th November.
Guest speaker on the evening was Andy (Wilko) Wilkinson, famous for holding
the Lands End to John-O-Groats record on a road bike and also later on a recumbent,
which still stands today. J.(Kit )Carson was also attending as an invited
guest, much appreciated for his services to the racing fraternity.
Our vocal entertainer, Alan Street entertained us with his talented singing
and comedy act and the night was held together by our impromptu Master of
Ceremonies, Steve Doherty, capturing the essence of the evening with his unique
light hearted approach to life, cycling and everything!!.
Our Club Champion, Arthur Winstanley thanked everybody on behalf of the prizewinners
and finished with a rhyming verse thanking the club peleton and others for
the help and encouragement he received during the season.

The Dinner and Prize Presentation was enjoyed by all
who attended and the hard won prizes were treasured by their owners. Once
again the beer run freely but not free and the photographer caught most of
the evening's action on a
handy digital camera. Keith Linge was the owner and here
are the results of his efforts. Thanks for the photos Keith.

Thanks to Peter and Bert for organising the 2008, 89th Annual
Dinner and Prize Presentation, which was a less formal and more sociable occasion
than previous years in part due to the shorter but entertaining after dinner
speeches.
Mr. Dave Massen did an admiral job of welcoming our special guests, Mr. &
Mrs Geoff Dutton and Mr. & Mrs Keith Boardman. Dave gave us a mini history
of Geoff's achievements over the years and brief synopsis of Keith's career.
Before Geoff presented the prizes he spoke with enthusiasm and enlightened
us all with some amusing tales from his earlier cycling exploits.
Arthur Winstanley won most of the awards and in his absence John Leach accepted
them on his behalf. The remaining prizes were won by Keith Williams and Steve
Doherty.
Later on the Disco got into its rhythm and the dancing girls took centre stage.
During this time, Keith Boardman was happily chatting to the many club members
that took the opportunity to reminisce about old times or past encounters.
I'm sure everybody enjoyed the evening, which seemed to pass all too quickly.
Next year the Phoenix C.C. celebrated its 90th year and a very special occasion
is already in the planning stages. We hope to see everybody here again in
2009.
