Not a bad night for the first ten in three weeks.
Sunny but cool with a slight NE'ly .but not a floater. It was
deceptive and hard going but some good times were made and most
riders produced their best rides of the season.
At least they did not have to negotiate any road works.
Recently, Dave Massen has had his moment of fame in the Echo.
He was mentioned in dispatches as having punctured during Sunday's
Open 25.
I think the fame has gone to his head because he was swaggering
around the car park wearing his Oakley shades and asking if anybody
would like his autograph.
Nice to see Stan McBride on a visit and riding a ten.Riders tonight

Some
like it hot, some like it wet. Tonight it was very wet. Dave didn't think
it was a good night for fast times but he still did a 23:26. Dave Walker
had a personal best with 24:21 and I rode my fastest time this season
24:57(nice one Keith, Ed.)
Arthur chose the safer strategy. He decided not to risk a slide on a roundabout
and was a DNS.
Other riders were: Kieran Leach 23:48, John Leach 24:22 and John Williamson
26:03 I think that was John's best time this year (well done John, Ed)
Keith Linge was our photographer who braved the rain to take 24 shots.
Thanks Keith. I will create an album when time permits.

By special request I have included this
great shot of Ricky with his pet banana, which is just about to meet it's
end. By all appearances it looks well past it's sell by date.Nevertheless
it kept him going till Sunday, then the toxins kicked in and for some
unknown reason he cycled for 11 hours in the rain..

(1) Very Close Mr. Massen... Dave Walker
is catching Dave's rear wheel, but not quite close enough this week to
spoil Mr. Massen's claim to fame. He is the 'Tens' Series Champion for
the 6th Year in succession,(is this a record? Has anybody ever won 6 'Tens'
series on the run? Could Mr Massen be trying to emulate the boss's 6 Tour
wins?). Well done Dave.
(2) Ricky rests and gets the deserved recognition for cycling around Wales
for 11 hours in the rain last Sunday,( see newspaper cutting on wall behind
Ricky's head!!!)
(3) Our Lad Kieran was suffering from his now regular insect attack syndrome.
I think he's found another battle zone.. go on Kieran give it a good scratch.
(4)The 'Tens' Series Champion at work, (In this photo there is a remarkable
resemblance to a certain J.Ulrich) You must click photo to see the larger

Dave Massen clinched the Tens series tonight by winning with a time of
23:35.
Dave Walker produced yet another personal best and was hot on the heels
of Mr Massen with a time of 23:53.
John Leach 24:40, Kieran Leach 24:44, Keith Williams 25:11, Arthur Winstanley
25:23, John Hampson 25:57 (best time this year)
The wind from the North West was not very strong, but it was deviously
more difficult than last week when it was stronger but coming from the
South East.
Thanks to Keith Linge for tonight's photos,.

The hardy cyclists did their best but in the end they decided to dump the
bikes, grab a pair of
and 'paddle' like crazy. All was in vain 'cos they were soon overtaken by
Mr. Massen who had added outboard motor to his high tech canoe and won with
a time of 23:10.
Second on the night was Dave Walker, with his PB of 23:50, Third from three
on the night was Keith Williams with his best time of the year,24:40.
Other Phoenix riders were either on holiday or anticipated the horrendous
weather and stayed nice and dry at home.
Thanks to the marshals who warned us as we approached some extra deep pools
of water.
The Phoenix three were 2nd, 4th and 5th from a field of 14, (there was also
a two up with a 21:32) Click here for results

The Byepass @19:15!!
Hey !! get ur feet outa my tea
For a change we found a gap between the torrential rain in
which to race.
Tonight was a floater. The wind was gentle and from the South West but it
was still noticable coming back up the lane where I think some riders lost
precious seconds. Mr. Massen was suffering from the dreaded lurgy. With great
determination he fought on to a winning time of 23:20.
Kieran, full of Cyprus Delights, and not having ridden for two weeks,
struggled to match his previous good form, was just tipped into 3rd place
with 24:10 by yours truly with 24:09: my fastest ten since July 1997.
Dave Walker, for once, actually went back a few seconds with his 24:19.
Sam was back and finished with 26:14.

August 17th is missing from here. I believe it was a good
week with some PB's.
Tonight was the last ten of the season, quite windy, but dry. Not an easy
night , but I think enjoyed by all. Nice to see Ricky racing again.
Dave walker won with 24:35, John Leach was second with 24:41, Keith Williams
was third with 25:00, Dave Massen was fourth with 25:10,Sam was fifth with
26:17, John Williamson was sixth with 27:02 and Ricky Coppell was seventh
with 27:50
