Century open 10 Saturday June 04th 2011

It’s been a long time since a Phoenix rider won an open time trial, maybe we’d have to go right back to the days of Harry Middleton. On Saturday Simon Rushton did it in fine style winning the 'Liverpool Century Brian Rooney' annual open 10 mile championship with a PB performance of 20.49. The closest challenger managed a very respectable 21.06 which in previous years would have been good enough to secure the trophy.

Although Saturday was warm and sunny as always a brisk wind on the bypass made the going tough and prevented overly fast times. I'm sure that this won’t be the last PB from Simon before the season ends.

I won my age category with 22.32 and with another Phoenix rider a 26-05 would have taken the team prize. Liverpool Century’s Trophy has yet to be engraved but Simon will now look after it for them for the next 12 months. The cup will be available for drinking champagne out of at the next club meeting.

Congratulations from the Phoenix on a fantastic result.
